Hi,

My name is Sabrina and I have been a Girl Scout for 11 years. Through that time, I have been able to earn two of the highest awards given out by the Girl Scouts, the Bronze and Silver awards. This website is a product of my working towards my Gold Award, "the most prestigious award in the world for girls (and the most difficult to earn), and it’s available exclusively to Girl Scouts." When I started this journey towards the Gold Award, I wanted to do something that helped people and would be meaningful and lasting.

My project was inspired by my two Grandmothers. Unfortunately, in their later years both were afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease. Alzheimer's is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time. For my Grandmothers, they began to lose their memories, the precious moments from their past. This caused them to get frustrated and made interacting with family members difficult. After much research, I decided to take matters into my own hands and created the memory books available on this site. They were developed using the colors, shapes, sizes, text, etc. that Alzheimer's patients should feel most comfortable with. The books become a project, shared by family members and the patient and as memory loss increases, they become a pleasant and fun memory "refresher". They are easy to assemble and can be filled with memories specific to each individual patient. Once completed, the books can be used to take a walk "down memory lane" to both reminisce and keep those memories fresh in the patient. They are not offered as a cure but as a tool, an aid to help families be able to interact and remember in a pleasant, non scary way.
